Position Overview

The Desktop Engineer is directly involved with the operational delivery of technical services within Information Technology. Desktop Engineers have primary responsibility for delivery of services required to install, configure, monitor, support and manage the clients systems. The Desktop Engineer possesses an enterprise view and understanding of the systems and technologies in place at the client, as well as strong technical skills. This candidate performs operations planning, configuration, and management for complex systems and/or services within the client. While primarily responsible for hardware and operating system components, this person possesses a higher level understanding of the business environment and the business applications running on the systems being managed, and leverages that knowledge to achieve operational efficiencies, including recommending improvement opportunities.

Working Relationships

The Desktop Engineer reports to the Service Desk Supervisor and must develop working relationships with IT and all employees he/she comes into contact with.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Performs installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrade activities for PC systems
  • Troubleshoots and repairs PC system failures or problems
  • Responsible for the efficient operation and management of PC systems
  • Participates as technical resource in cross-team troubleshooting efforts
  • Participate in the evaluation, selection and installation of new hardware products and operating system versions
  • Creates support documents pertaining to system builds and configuration
  • Ensures that documentation is kept up to date and reflects all changes
  • Maintains and updates relevant components of the disaster recovery plan, and performs recovery testing as part of an overall disaster recovery planning process
  • Schedules and manages system activities in order to optimize hardware/software availability and utilization
  • Interacts with the on-site IT staff to ensure that support services delivered to staff are provided in a timely manner
  • Ensures that an up-to-date inventory is in place at all times
  • Performs system/file backup and recovery
  • Participate with office moves as needed during or after business hours
  • Responsible for meeting the clients commitment to compliance and performance excellence

Minimum Requirements:

  • A formal training program after high school from an accredited computer technology institution
  • Information Technology or PC specific discipline
  • Three years related experience
  • Experience doing computer support on laptop, desktop, mobile devices in a corporate level environment. Demonstrated knowledge of imaging and deployment.
  • IT Certification
  • Microsoft MCP
  • A+ Certification required within 12 months of hire:
  • Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related discipline
